Livestock guardian dogs
On many Swiss alpine pastures, guardian dogs protect sheep and goats. The map shows officially reported pastures – check your route before you set off.
Hike map warning
On our hike pages, we automatically show a warning when livestock guardian dogs are reported within 2 km of your route. The dog icon then appears directly on the hike map.

How to behave
- Stay calm, do not run and do not threaten with poles.
- Give the herd a wide berth and stay on the trail where possible.
- Keep your own dog on a lead; if a guardian dog approaches, release your dog and move away.
- Push your bike and leave the pasture calmly.
