Circular hike around the Gastlosen

The hike starts at the mountain station of the Gastlosenexpress above Jaun. From there, the trail first leads through alpine pastures and sparse forest sections towards the historic Chalet du Soldat. The further you go, the more imposing the striking limestone walls of the Gastlosen become, some of which rise almost 300 meters vertically into the air.

At the Chalet du Soldat, a short break is worth it before the most demanding section of the tour begins. The path climbs via a stony and partly rocky trail up to the Wolfs Ort. At around 1'920 m a.s.l., this pass is the highest point of the hike. Once at the top, you are rewarded with a magnificent panorama of the Gastlosen and the surrounding Pre-Alps.

The route then leads along the south side of the Gastlosen chain. The massive limestone walls remain constantly present throughout, forming an impressive contrast to the green alpine pastures and dry meadows. Due to their special geology and landscape, the Gastlosen are considered a natural site and geotope of national importance and are also a popular climbing area.

At the Chalet Grat, there is another opportunity for a leisurely break. Afterwards, the path leads downhill through the shady Mattenwald back towards the mountain station.
