Circular hike from Ristis to Rugghubelhütte
The hike starts at the Ristis mountain station above Engelberg and initially leads uphill via Rigidalalp. The path runs through open alpine pastures and offers beautiful early views of Titlis, Hahnen, and the Engelbergertal valley. It continues via Tüfelstein and Planggenalp towards Rugghubel.
As the altitude increases, the landscape becomes more alpine. The path continues uphill over stony and partially rocky sections, while the view of the surrounding mountain world opens up ever further. With a bit of luck, you can also spot marmots in this area.
Finally, you reach the Rugghubelhütte SAC at 2,295 m a.s.l. The hut is spectacularly situated above Engelberg and is an ideal place for a break. The view back into the Engelbergertal and of the surrounding peaks is particularly impressive.
After the break, the descent begins. Following the familiar path, you initially head back towards Planggenalp and Rigidalalp. The route then leads along a different path back to Ristis, where this approximately 11.5-kilometre circular hike ends.
This tour is also great as a two-day trip with an overnight stay at the Rugghubelhütte, combined with a hike along the Walenpfad on the second day.
