Niesen from the Schwandegg middle station

The hike starts at the Schwandegg middle station of the Niesenbahn. From here, the Bergwanderweg initially leads uphill across steep alpine pastures. Soon, the view over the Berner Oberland opens up while the striking Niesen comes ever closer. The ascent runs along the mountainside towards Niesen Kulm. The path is partially steep and rocky, requiring good physical fitness. However, the panorama becomes increasingly impressive as you gain altitude: the view reaches across the Thunersee and Brienzersee lakes to the peaks of the Berner Oberland. Finally, you reach the Niesen Kulm at 2,362 m a.s.l. The summit, also known as the "Swiss pyramid", is the highlight of the tour. From the top, an impressive panoramic view opens up over the lake landscape of the Berner Oberland, the Alps, and, visibility permitting, far out into the Mittelland.
