Magglingen - Twannbachschlucht - Twann

The hike starts in Magglingen and initially leads across the heights of the Twannberg. Following scenic trails, the route takes you through meadows and sparse forest sections, while repeatedly opening up beautiful views of the Bielersee, the Swiss Plateau, and, on a clear day, as far as the Alps.

After the leisurely section over the Twannberg, you reach the upper entrance of the Twannbachschlucht. Here, the landscape changes suddenly: the path plunges into a shady, wild, and romantic gorge. The Twannbach accompanies the hike with its rushing water, while steep rock faces, moss-covered boulders, and small waterfalls create an impressive atmosphere. Especially in spring, when the stream carries plenty of water, the cascades are well worth seeing.

The gorge, which was opened to the public in 1892, leads steadily downhill. After the gorge section, the landscape opens up again, revealing for the first time the village of Twann with its vineyards and the Bielersee. When visibility is good, the view stretches across the lake as far as the St. Petersinsel and the Alps.

Finally, the path leads through the narrow alleys of the historic wine-growing village of Twann down to the lake. Here, you can round off the hike in comfort with a glass of regional wine or a bite to eat.
