Leukerbad - Römerweg - Bodmen - Leukerbad

The hike starts in Leukerbad and initially leads through the sunny landscape above the village. The trail proceeds leisurely towards Birchen, a small hamlet with traditional Valais wooden houses and the over 300-year-old St.-Antonius-Kapelle. The chapel is a beautiful stopover and offers an insight into the history and culture of the region.

Afterwards, the route continues on the historic Römerweg towards Bodmen. The name recalls the former importance of this link between the Rhone valley and the Alpine passes. Indeed, the Romans already used paths through the Dalatal to reach Leukerbad and its thermal springs.

Once in Bodmen, a break at the Bodmenstübli is well worth it. The small hamlet with its old wooden buildings still conveys a typical Valais townscape today. From there, the route leads back towards Leukerbad. Along the way, beautiful views of the valley and the impressive mountain scenery surrounding the resort town open up again and again.
