Circular hike from Jungfraujoch to Mönchsjochhütte

The hike starts at Jungfraujoch at 3,454 m a.s.l., which can be easily reached by train. Through the Sphinxstollen you reach the high-alpine glacier world. In front of you lie the Jungfraufirn and the imposing peaks of Mönch and Jungfrau - the start of the tour is therefore a special experience.

The path now leads steadily uphill over the Jungfraufirn towards the Mönchsjoch. While the path is usually groomed and marked with poles when the hut is open, you are still moving on a glacier at an altitude of around 3,500 m a.s.l. The high-alpine surroundings and the massive ice and rock landscapes make this section the actual highlight of the hike.

After about 45 minutes you reach the Obere Mönchsjoch and shortly afterwards the Mönchsjochhütte at 3,657 m a.s.l. It is the highest serviced hut on Swiss soil. From the hut, there is an impressive view back over the Jungfraufirn and up to the surrounding four-thousanders.

After a break, you head back to Jungfraujoch along the same path. This reveals the glacier landscape from a different perspective before you reach the mountain station again through the Sphinxstollen.
