Grindelwald - Glecksteinhütte - Grindelwald

The hike starts near Grindelwald, or more specifically the Gleckstein turn-off, and leads initially uphill through the forest. Soon the path becomes steeper and reaches the Ischpfad, one of the most impressive sections of the tour. The narrow Bergwanderweg leads over rocky and partially exposed passages, which are secured in exposed sections. Surefootedness and a head for heights are required here.

After the Ischpfad, you reach the area of the former mountain station of the Wetterhorn lift. This historic facility opened in 1908 as the first public aerial cableway in Switzerland, but was only in operation for a few years. Afterwards, the path leads slightly down into the glacial valley before the next ascent begins.

Continuing, the path leads past a waterfall and over rocky sections towards Schönbiel. Here, an impressive view opens up of the Obere Grindelwaldgletscher and the mighty mountain scenery surrounding Wetterhorn and Schreckhorn. With a bit of luck, you might even spot ibex along the way. Several information boards along the path also provide details about the lives of the ibex in this region.

Finally, you reach the Glecksteinhütte SAC, located at 2,316 m a.s.l. The hut is situated spectacularly above the Grindelwald valley and is the ideal place for a break before heading back down to the valley along the same route. Alternatively, the tour can be planned as a 2-day trip with an overnight stay in the hut.
